I saw a picture of a painting on the library wall
I remember when you made it, I was very small
And I remember berating
The time it was taking
For a picture of a painting
But this place meant a lot to you
And I'm just passing through
This is a poem about my father's picture of Charles Barry's chalk portrait of Abraham Lincoln that is hanging at the Memorial Hall Library in Andover, MA. My father loved the library. He was the local bookfly. I was just there dropping off a book. Actually, replacing a book I'd spilled beer all over when I spotted it and wrote this poem in my head on the way home.
